How do dry herb Vaporizers work?

The way a dry herb vape works is the herb is placed in the oven and once the device is turned on and the temperature selected, the herb gets heated and vaporized. The vapour passes through the air-path and into the mouthpiece where it is inhaled by the user. After a set amount of time, the herb gets used up and the user opens up the chamber and empties it out. When the herb is brown and crunchy its time to dumb is out. What I normally do with the crunchy brown herb is collect is up in a jar and use it for baking... :)

The Herb Chamber

This component is also called the “oven” and it’s where the weed gets cooked or vaporized. The Oven can be made from different materials such as Stainless steel or Ceramic. It’s important to keep the herb chamber clean if you want your vaporizer to work properly.

Heat times vary for each vaporizer, but on average, most herb chambers take about a minute to ninety seconds to reach vaporization temperature. Speaking of that temperature, some vaporizers have granular control that allows users to choose from a wide temperature range. Others have a selection of preset temperatures from which to choose. It is at it’s best around 380-390F.

Grinding the various Dry Herbs

When using a dry herb vaporizer, it is essential that you grind your buds. A quality, sharp grinder will ensure an even grind, breaking the herbs into much smaller particles. You don’t want it quite as fine as a powder but you also don’t want any big chunks of dense nug. That’s why it’s definitely worth it to get a high-quality, metal grinder. Breaking the bigger herbs into a soft pillow of herb allows the hot air from the vape to travel through them, pulling all those wonderful, goodness-filled trichomes off the plant matter and through the chamber. If you don’t have a grinder and currently use the fingers to break things up, we highly recommend getting a grinder to start efficiently vaping without waste.

Battery Power

Portable dry herb vapes will be powered via rechargeable batteries. Elite portable dry herb vaporizers will have swappable batteries to make for extended sessions. If you hate being unable to vape during charging look for a vaporizer that features “pass-through” charging. These types of vaporizers can be used while the unit is being charged.

 Temperature Control & Heating Time

Temperature control is one of the most important aspects of many dry vaporizer users. While the ideal temperature for vaporizing most herbs is around 410°F (210°C), some users like to burn hotter or cooler. The general recommended dry herb vape temperature is between 375°F and 430°F. For those with lung issues or just those looking for smooth, light vapours will want to set their vape closer to the 375°F mark. You definitely want to keep your dry herb vaporizer under 455°F to avoid burning the herbs.

Vaping is the perfect alternative to smoking herb. Not only are vaporizers healthier, but they are also discreet and in the long run will save money.

However, the art of vaping herbs can take some getting used to.

Vaping does not produce thick smoke like when you’re smoking. The mist produced from vaporizers is lighter and sometimes difficult to see but this doesn’t mean it is any less effective. As long as your vaporizer is heated up to the right temperature, any active compounds in your herbs will evaporate for you to inhale and enjoy its effects.
